Five Score in Double Figures and Men's Basketball Handles NYIT, 88-69
Box Score BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Feb. 21, 2012) – Five players in double figures were key to the C.W. Post basketball team's 88-69 victory over visiting New York Institute of Technology on Wednesday evening in East Coast Conference play.
The Pioneers improve to 15-4 and remain perfect in conference play with a 9-0 record, while NYIT now stands at 7-11, 4-5 in ECC action.
The Bears grabbed a 5-0 lead to start the game and it wasn't until the 16:40 mark that the Pioneers finally broke the ice with a layup by
Amir Tarif (New York, N.Y.). C.W. Post tied the game up 9-9- at 15:00, and took the on
Tobin Carberry's (Hamden, Conn.) dunk at 14:40.
C.W. Post extended its lead to 10 on Carberry's three at 11:21, and stretched it even further as the lead topped out at 21 points with 3:23 to play in the half. The hosts took a 46-29 advantage into the halftime break.
The Pioneers stayed efficient on offense coming out of the half and kept the Bears out of the game with as much as a 27-point lead with 7:15 to play. Although NYIT was able to cut the lead down to 14, it was as close as they could manage as the Pioneers outshot and outrebounded their opponents. For the game, the Pioneers shot 49.3% (35-71) and held a 46-33 advantage on the glass. The Pioneers also had a better assist-turnover ratio (18-10 for CWP, 11-12 for NYIT), and scored 20 fastbreak points as well as 47 points from their bench.
Vaughn Allen (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) led the way with 22 points, followed by Carberry with 18 points and 10 boards.
Stefan Bonneau (Middletown, N.Y.) scored to 12 points and dished out nine assists, while
Tyuan Williams (Newark, N.J.) and
Vince Rosario (Newark, N.J.) each added 11 points.
Nick Fessenden, Jahleel Felix and Antoine Brown each scored 12 points for the Bears, who shot 43.8 from the floor (28-64).
C.W. Post is in action next on Saturday, Feb. 4 as it travels to Bridgeport for a 3 p.m. ECC matchup.
