Men's Basketball Signs Riley Calzonetti to NLI
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Nov. 21, 2011) – LIU Post men's basketball coach
Chris Casey recently announced that
Riley Calzonetti (Neptune City, N.J.) has signed a national letter of intent to suit up for the Pioneers in the 2013-14 season.
Calzonetti, a 6-foot-4 forward from Point Pleasant Beach High School in Point Pleasant Beach, N.J., earned Second-Team All-Shore Class B Central Division honors after averaging 17.0 points per game and 9.0 rebounds per game for the Gulls. During his sophomore year, he averaged 11.0 points per game and 6.0 rebounds per game. Ranked among NJ Hoops Top 75 Seniors, Calzonetti earned All-Tournament accolades playing for his AAU team at the West Virginia Jam Fest and Hoop Group Fall Jam Fest.
“We are excited to have signed Riley,” said Casey. “He will add good depth to our front court. He is a solid player both inside and outside, and an excellent student to boot. We are happy bot have him join our Pioneers family.”
Calzonetti's basketball pedigree is impressive, along with his already established connection to Long Island University as his father, Mark Calzonetti, played at Bentley, and is currently in his second season as an assistant coach at LIU Brooklyn. Riley's brother, Cooper, is currently a sophomore on the men's hoops squad at Division II Medaille College. He also has three uncles who played collegiately: Carmine Calzonetti at St. John's, Dennis Calzonetti at Temple, and Bill Thompson at Western Carolina.
LIU Post is currently 1-3 under third-year head coach Chris Casey, who has led the Pioneers to back-to-back East Coast Conference Championships and NCAA appearances in his first two seasons. The Pioneers open conference play this Saturday, Dec. 1, taking on Bridgeport at 3:30 p.m.
