BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Nov. 10, 2012) – The LIU Post women's swim team won 11 of 14 events with junior Tamara Garriock (Duncan, British Columbia, Canada) and freshman Joyce Kwok (Middle Village, N.Y.) each recording two individual first place finishes along with a first place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, as the Pioneers swam to a 148-99 victory over the Kutztown Golden Bears on Saturday in the Pratt Recreation Center Natatorium.
Garriock placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:08.64 and the 500-yard freestyle by nearly 16 seconds with a time of 5:10.44. She also swam with Kwok, Johanna Pettersson (Kungalv, Sweden), and Mairi Morrison (Carnock, Scotland) on the Pioneer 200-yard medley relay team that took first place finishing with a time of 1:49.74
Kwok continued her stellar start to her freshman campaign with a first place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a NCAA 'B' cut time of 2:04.98. She also edged out teammate Seren Jones (Cardiff, Wales, U.K.) in the 100-yard butterfly finishing with respective times of 56.43 seconds and 1:00.15.
Jones took two more second place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke and the 200-yard medley relay with times of 59.88 and 1:51.17. Joining her on the relay team was Meghan Brazier (West Vancouver, B.C., Canada), Sandra Luiga (Jarfalla, Sweden), and Marthe Soerensen (Stavanger, Norway). Jones also swam as part of the Pioneer team that grabbed a first place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay along with Kirsty Elliott (Edinburgh, Scotland), Malin Hedberg (Vasteras, Sweden), and Maxi Russo (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.).
Petterson narrowly edged out teammate Jones in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing with a time of 59.20.
In the 50-yard freestyle, teammates Morrison and Courtney Delehanty (Oceanport, N.J.) slapped the wall within a second of each other with Morrison taking the first place finish of 24.74 and Delehanty following with a time of 25.25.
Soerensen and Angelica Norrena (Solna, Sweden) were the first two finishers of the 200-yard freestyle event with times of 1:56.88 and 2:02.18, respectively.
Luiga slapped the wall two seconds ahead of teammate Elliot to take the first place finish in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:17.05. Elliot finished with a time of 2:19.33 in second place.
Hedberg took an individual first place finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:05.09, just barely edging out Kutztown's Elizabeth Metz who slapped the wall after 11:05.16. Hedberg also took a second place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a finishing time of 5:26.11.
Kutztown's Caitlin Davies finished first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 56.54. Teammate Ellen Groenveld edged out teammate Emily Scordato in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing with a time of 2:31.79. Jessica Mape secured the Golden Bears' final victory with a first place finishing time of 2:31.67 in the 200-yard breaststroke.
LIU Post will next travel to West Point, N.Y. on Nov. 17 to take on Army at 5 p.m.
