MANCHESTER, N.H. (Nov. 10, 2012) – The LIU Post men's basketball team engineered a late rally against Southern New Hampshire University, but the deficit was too great to overcome as the Pioneers fell to the Penmen , 60-57, on Saturday night at the SNHU Fieldhouse.

The loss drops the Pioneers to 0-2 on the season, while the Penmen improve to 2-0.

SNHU started off the game by reeling off a 10-0 run, and kept the Pioneers at arm's length for the first half.  The second half saw the Penmen increase their lead to as many as 19 points early on, but LIU Post finally clicked into gear offensively and whittled the deficit away.  With 1:39 to play, the Pioneers trailed by just three points, the tightest score since the opening minutes.  The visitors had two chances to tie the score on ensuing possessions, but a turnover and a missed three at the buzzer gave SNHU – who led wire to wire – the victory.

The Pioneers were led by a game-high 21 points from junior Vaughn Allen (Mount Vernon, N.Y.), who was 5-for-8 from the floor and 11-of-12 from the charity stripe.  Senior Tobin Carberry (Hamden, Conn.) chipped in with 11 points.

SNHU had three scorers in double figures, as Phillip Tripodakis led the way with 13 points off the bench, Elijah Bonsignore scored 11 points, and CJ Marrio chipped in with 10.

The Pioneers hurt themselves with 18 turnovers to only seven for the Penmen, thwarting a strong effort on the boards as they outrebounded the hosts 43-29.

The Pioneers went 20-of-31 from the free throw line while SNU was 3-of-5.   LIU Post shot 40% from the floor (18-44), but were hurt by a 1-9 showing from beyond the arc.

Next on the slate for the Pioneers is a matchup against Post University on Saturday, currently scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Pratt Recreation Center.
