KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Oct. 2, 2012) - The LIU Post men's soccer team took over the top spot in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of American (NSCAA) Division II National poll, climbing up one spot from last week's ranking of No. 2.  This marks the highest-ever national ranking in program history for the Pioneers.

The Pioneers won in their only contest of the week with a 4-1 victory over Saint Thomas Aquinas, scoring three second-half goals to break a 1-1 halftime deadlock and extended its winning streak to nine games.  With a record of 9-0 on the season and 4-0 in conference play, LIU Post is one of only two remaining undefeated teams in Division II (Gannon is 9-0), and the Pioneers are just two wins away from matching the 11-game winning streak that last season's team posted to begin the season.

LIU Post has outscored opponents 30-9, led by eight goals from Eivind Austboe (Stavanger, Norway) and five from Cemil Turan (Staten Island, N.Y.). In NCAA rankings, the Pioneers rank sixth in scoring offense with 3.33 goals per game, and eighth in total goals, fourth in total assists, and seventh in total points.

The Pioneers will look to continue their unbeaten streak with a trip to Mercy for an ECC matchup on October 3 starting at 4 p.m.  Looking forward, the Pioneers host Bridgeport on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 2:30 p.m., then host No. 8 UMass-Lowell on Wednesday, Oct. 10 at 3 p.m.
