NYIT Upends No. 1 Men's Soccer, 2-1
Box Score OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (Oct. 13, 2012) – The nation's top ranked team saw its 12-game winning streak snapped as the New York Institute of Technology topped the LIU Post men's soccer team by a final score of 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.
The Pioneers suffer their first loss of the season and now stand at 12-1 overall and 6-1 in conference play. NYIT improves to just above .500 with a record of 6-5-2 overall and 3-2-1 In ECC action.
A scoreless first half led into fifteen minutes of scoreless play to open the second half before the Bears got on the board with an unassisted goal by Herve Valcourt.
The Bears added a second goal in the 78th minute as Guillermo Fuentes scored off a feed from Dominic Iovino.
The Pioneers cut the lead to one with a penalty kick by
Eirik Bjoernoe (Randaberg, Norway) in the 80th minute, but could not find the equalizer.
LIU Post held an 18-15 edge o the shot chart, as well as a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Junior goalkeeper
Marco Jorgensen (Copenhagen, Denmark) made seven saves in the loss, while Liam Waddy turned away five shots to preserve the win.
The Pioneers look to regain their winning form on Tuesday as they travel to Philadelphia University for a 3 p.m. matchup.
