Kopp's Double-Double Leads Women's Basketball Over Queens, 80-58

Samantha Kopp (Franklinville, N.Y.) registered her first career double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead C.W. Post past Queens College, 80-58, in an East Coast Conference women's basketball clash Wednesday evening at Fitzgerald Gymnasium.
C.W. Post wins its fifth straight contest and improves to 13-5 overall and 5-2 in conference play. Queens falls to 1-15 overall and 0-6 in the ECC.
Kopp was flawless all night offensively and went 7-for-7 from field goal range and went 3-for-3 at the free throw line while adding an assist and a block to her stats. Senior guard
Felicia Joyner (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) chipped in 16 points while freshman forward
Chelsea Williams (Copiague, N.Y.) added 11 points. Graduate forward
Catherine Lutz (Easton, Pa.) scored 10 points for the Pioneers.
Samantha Gillman led the Knights with 14 points and eight rebounds.
Each team traded 3-point baskets to open the game and clawed for the lead. In fact, the teams exchanged the lead eight times while tying it up at three different points in the first half.
Queens's slim 17-16 lead vanished with a jumper from
Iriana Ijaduola (Teaneck, N.Y.) at 10:15 that gave the Pioneers the lead for the remainder of the game. C.W. Post led, 38-31 at the end of the half.
The Pioneers grew their lead to 13 (48-35) in the second half but were still fighting off the Knights. Queens used an 8-2 spurt that cut the lead down to seven (50-43) with 11:34 to play.
C.W. Post was able to stave off the Knights and ran off a 17-7 scoring spree to close out the game.
C.W. Post shot .456 (31 of 68) from the field and went 8-for-11 from the charity stripe. The Pioneers also cleaned up on the glass with a 39-29 advantage over the Knights.
Queens shot .400 (22 of 55) from the field and was 11-for-20 at the line.
C.W. Post is back in action on Saturday when it travels to face University of the District of Columbia at 1 p.m.
