Huge Display Of Offense Powers Women's Basketball Past Molloy, 80-51

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Jan. 14, 2012) – The C.W. Post women's basketball team coasted to an 80-51 victory over Molloy College Saturday afternoon in an East Coast Conference tilt at the Pratt Recreation Center.
 
C.W. Post improves to 12-5 overall and 4-2 in the ECC while Molloy slips to 7-9 overall and 3-3 in conference action.
 
Freshman guard Chelsea Williams (Copiague, N.Y.) led all scorers with 12 points, shooting 5 of 10 from field goal range and 2-for-2 at the free throw line.  Sophomore forward Shayna Gatling (Baldwin, N.Y.) and graduate forward Catherine Lutz (Easton, Pa.) each added 11 points for the Pioneers.  Junior forward Samantha Kopp (Franklinville, N.Y.) also scored nine points and pulled down nine rebounds.
 
Amanda Bartlett led Molloy with 11 points, shooting 2 of 6 from the field and went 5-for-6 at the line.  Christina Marra and Laura Rivera each scored eight points.
 
The teams kept the score close through the first five minutes of play with C.W. Post keeping an 8-7 lead.  The Pioneers blew the game open with a 19-2 run that began with a three-pointer from Lutz at 14:45 and was capped off with a layup from junior guard Ashley Caggiano (Holtsville, N.Y.) at 6:57.  C.W. Post led, 47-27 at the half.
 
The Pioneers continued to apply pressure in the second half as they opened the half with an 11-2 run.  The Lions could not find traction and allowed another 12-2 run by C.W. Post to increase the deficit to 70-36 and give the Pioneers their highest lead of 34 with 8:24 to play.
  
C.W. Post is back in action on Wednesday, Jan. 18 when it travels to play at Queens.
