Both Cross Country Teams Kick Off the Season at Stony Brook in Tri-Meet
STONY BROOK, N.Y. (Sept. 4, 2011) – After having the Hofstra Invitational cancelled because of the conditions of the course after Hurricane Irene came through the area last week, both the men's and women's cross country teams quickly switched plans and took part in a three team meet with Stony Brook and Quinnipiac out at the Stony Brook Campus.
On the men's side, 28 runners from three schools took part in the meet.
Raymond Coyle (Woodhaven, N.Y.) began his junior year on a good note with a eighth place finish at a time of 19:53. Coming in two seconds behind him in the 10
th place spot was fellow junior
Christian Altamura (Seaford, N.Y.).
For the women, Stony Brook took four of the top five spots in the 30 female runner field. Jennifer McLaughlin (Seaford, N.Y.) was the top performer for the Pioneers on the day, coming in at the 18th spot.
Next up for the Pioneers will be the C.W. Post Invitational on the campus of C.W. Post. The event is set to took place on Sept. 17 on the Brookville Campus.
