Joyner, Aiken Spark Women's Basketball To 67-61 ECC Quarterfinal Win Against Queens

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (March 2, 2011)
– The C.W. Post women's basketball team went on a second-half tear and scored 39 points to advance to the semifinal round of the East Coast Conference Championships with a 67-61 win over Queens College Wednesday evening at the Pratt Recreation Center.
 
C.W. Post improves to 15-12 and will face top-seeded St. Thomas Aquinas on Saturday at 12 p.m. at the University of Bridgeport. Queens ends its season with an overall record of 10-19.
 
Junior guard Felicia Joyner (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) and senior guard Janea Aiken (St. Albans, N.Y.) led the Pioneers offensively, scoring 22 and 21 points, respectively.
 
The first half belonged to the visiting Knights as Amanda Bartlett led the half with 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field. 
 
Around the middle of the first half, Queens held a 10-point lead (19-9) after Jessica Fairweather nailed a long three at 11:24. The Pioneers climbed back into the game with a 9-0 run that was highlighted by a trey from Joyner at 9:26 followed by a layup from Aiken that cut the lead down to one (19-18). 
 
Queens found in answer in its next possession when Bartlett landed her first of three three-pointers in the game to put the Knights back up by four.
 
The Pioneers tied the game at 24-all when sophomore forward Nicolette Marciniak (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored a layup at 5:13.
 
The teams would toggle the lead for the next couple minutes but it was Queens that won out as Chris Harnishfeger canned a three with four seconds left in the half.
 
At the half, Bartlett led all scorers with 17 points as the Knights held a 32-28 lead.
 
C.W. Post came out strong in second half and quickly tied the game with a pair of doubles from Joyner and freshman forward Alexis Peters (Dorchester, Mass.). The Pioneers wrestled the lead back when Joyner drained one from downtown at 16:54 to give the Pioneers a 35-33 advantage.
 
The Knights later tied the game on another three from Bartlett at 14:31 but C.W. Post took the lead for good on a layup from Joyner at 12:56. 
 
The Pioneers saw their lead build to as many as 10 points (60-50) but the Knights would not go away quietly as they charged back with a 9-0 run to cut the lead down to one with 2:01 on the game clock. 
 
C.W. Post defused the threat with baskets from Joyner and Aiken and only allowed one more basket from the Knights – a layup from Harnishfeger with five seconds on the clock.
C.W. Post completed the game shooting .422 (27 of 64) from field goal range while also outrebounding the Knights by a 40-33 count. Senior forward Alyssa Lombardi (New Fairfield, Conn.) led the game in rebounds with 14. Aiken also added six assists, four rebounds, three blocks and two steals to the statsheet.
 
Queens shot .426 (20 of 47) from the field. Bartlett completed the game with 23 points with six rebounds, two assists and three steals. Chloe Johnson registered a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
