Solid Offensive Effort Leads Women's Basketball Past Bridgeport, 60-53

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Feb. 26, 2011) – The C.W. Post women's basketball team used a 15-3 run late in the first half en route to a 60-53 win over the University of Bridgeport in the final regular season East Coast Conference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon at the Pratt Recreation Center.
C.W. Post improves to 14-12 overall and 12-9 in conference play while Bridgeport slips to 15-13 overall and 13-8 in ECC action.
Senior guard Janea Aiken (St. Albans, N.Y.) led the Pioneers with 18 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the field and an 8-of-10 effort at the charity stripe.
Trailing 13-12 with 11:55 to play in the first half, sophomore forward Nicolette Marciniak (Brooklyn, N.Y.) swished a jumper that started a 15-3 run and carried the Pioneers to lead 27-16 with just over four minutes to play.
At the half, C.W. Post led, 31-22.
In the second half, the Purple Knights cut the lead down with a 9-2 spurt to trail by just two (39-37) with 9:06 on the clock.
The Pioneers were able to fend off the Purple Knights' offense and took advantage of turnovers late in the game.
Junior guard #Felicia Joyner# (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) scored 16 points for the Pioneers.
Kelly Keil registered a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds with three blocks.
C.W. Post returns to action when it hosts Queens College in the opening round of the ECC Championships on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
