Women's Basketball Uses Strong First Half to Build a Victory Over Molloy, 63-41

Janea Aiken (St. Albans, N.Y.) led the way for the Pioneers with a game 21 points.
The Pioneers built a lead up to 20 points during the first half, taking a 33-13 lead into the half after Aiken converted for 13 of her 21 points during the opening stanza. C.W. Post forced 18 Molloy turnovers during the first half, led by five steals on the part of
Ashley Caggiano (Holtsville, N.Y.). The 18 Lion turnovers led to 15 C.W. Post points over the second half. The Pioneer defense was able to hold the Lions to only 15.4 percent from the field on 4-26 shooting. Led by Aiken, the Pioneer offense shot 40.0 percent from the field themselves.
Molloy was able to improve on the offensive side in the second half, however the Pioneers lead and consistency was too much in the end. The Lions were only able to cut the Pioneer lead down to 15 during the second half, with the lead being kept around the 20 point mark.
Aiken led the way with her 21 points, shooting 7-12 from the field including two from beyond the arc and going a perfect 5-5 from the charity stripe. Caggiano led the defense with seven steals by the end of the game, while also scoring nine points of her own and dishing out four assists.
Felicia Joyner (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) was the lone other Pioneer to reach double-figures aside Aiken with 12 for herself.
Alyssa Lombardi (New Fairfield, Conn.) once again reached the 10-rebound plateau, ending the game with 11 boards.
Delmara Reece led the Lions with a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds. The Lions ended the game shooting 25.0 percent from the field and only 51.9 percent from the free throw line as the squad drops to 7-11 in the ECC and 7-18 overall.
Next for the Pioneers, who move to 10-8 in ECC play and 12-11 overall, will be a date at the ECC leader St. Thomas Aquinas on Saturday afternoon, February 19 at 1 p.m.
