Women's Basketball Upsets No. 1 Bentley, 85-71; Joyner Leads With 27

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Dec. 18, 2011) – The C.W. Post women's basketball continued its late December run as it stunned the No. 1-ranked and previously undefeated Bentley University Falcons, 85-71, in a non-conference women's basketball clash Sunday afternoon at the Pratt Recreation Center.
C.W. Post improves to 7-4 overall while Bentley dips to 9-1. The loss snapped a 10-game regular game winning streak for the Falcons.
The Pioneers paced themselves to an 11-4 lead to start the game before Bentley used a 10-4 run of its own to catch up and tie the game 14-all with 13:57 to play.
The Falcons grabbed its first lead of the game on a made free throw from Katherine Goodwin at 13:08 followed by a layup from Lauren Battista at 12:17. The Pioneers knotted the score at 17-17 on a layup and free throw from senior

The teams exchanged the lead over the next several minutes of play and Bentley managed to build its lead to six (33-27) with 4:57 on the clock. The Pioneers climbed back and stole the lead back, closing the half out on a 12-2 run that began with a jumper from junior

C.W. Post shot .471 (16 of 34) in the half and was led by Joyner with 16 points. Bentley shot .464 (13 of 28) from the field and was led by Battista and Goodwin, who each had eight.
The Pioneers maintained their offensive dominance in the second half and improved their shooting to 51.9 percent (14-27) and went 17-for-20 at the free throw line. They built their lead to as high as 18 with 7:44 left in regulation.
Joyner led all scorers with 27 points on 9-of-17 shooting from the field, including 7-for-11 at the charity stripe. Junior
Nicolette Marciniak (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored 13 of her 21 points in the second half. Junior
Samantha Kopp (Franklinville, N.Y.) scored 12 points and pulled down nine rebounds.
Battista led Bentley with 26 points on 10-of-22 shooting and pulled down nine rebounds.
C.W. Post returns to action on Dec. 29 when it hosts UMass Lowell as part of its holiday tournament at 5 p.m.
