Women's Basketball to Host Saint Rose on Friday Evening, 6 p.m.

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Dec. 15, 2011) – Coming off three tough losses that include two overtime games and a combined deficit of six points in the three games, the C.W. Post women's basketball team (5-4 overall, 0-2 ECC) will look to rebound at home Friday night against the College of Saint Rose Golden Knights. 

The Pioneers have not played since last Friday, Dec. 9, when Pace used crucial free throws down the stretch to earn a 65-62 victory over C.W. Post.  Earlier in the game, Pace held an 11 point advantage that the Pioneers turned around into a six point lead of their own during the second half.  However, over the last 1:24 of the game, Pace connected on six of six free throws. 

Felicia Joyner (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) scored a majority of her game-high 21 points during the second half.  Catherine Lutz (Eaton, Pa.) connected on four shots from beyond the arc during the game to help account for her 18 points.  Nicolette Marciniak (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the team with 12 rebounds and three blocked shots to go along with her nine points.

C.W. Post is currently holding a 73.4 point per game average, which is 6.7 points better than opponents' per game output.  A 16.2 assist per game average has helped achieve the scoring average while the team is also outrebounding opponents on average 7.1 rebounds per game.  The team's defensive statistics have also been strong behind 9.4 steals and 3.2 blocks per game. 

Joyner continues to lead the Pioneers in scoring, as her average is now up 18.1 points per game while shooting 44.6 percent from the field in 35.2 minutes per game.  Marciniak is close to a season double-double with 10.6 points and 9.9 rebounds per game.  She is also currently leading the team with 10 total blocks.  Lutz has connected on 18 three pointers thus far to help her 9.7 points per game average.

The backcourt of Ashley Caggiano (Holtsville, N.Y.) and Kenyatta Sears (Hampton, Va.) has combined to average 8.2 assists per game, nearly half of the team's total.  Sears is also leading the squad with 20 total steals. 

Saint Rose currently sits in fourth place inside the Northeast-10 Conference, with a 5-2 conference mark that is part of a 7-2 overall record.  The Golden Knights' last decision game this past Saturday, Dec. 10, in a conference win over American International, 58-42, that included 24 points created off turnovers.  The team also notched 16 assists to help achieve a 43.6 shooting percentage.  Senior forward, Alison McGrath, was strong off the bench for the Pioneers with 10 points and nine rebounds. 

The Coach Karen Haag led squad has a scoring average of 63.2 points per game going into tomorrow night's contest while only allowing opponents to score 50.8 points per game.  Saint Rose has also shot the ball well with a 44.0 field goal percentage.  The Golden Knights also hold a slight 2.5 average rebounding margin over opponents and currently are blocking 4.9 shots per game. 

Ashley Rath, a senior guard, holds the team lead in scoring at 18.2 points per game.  She has connected on 25 shots from long distance through nine games while also shooting 87.5 percent from the free throw line.  Fellow senior, Ola Shajuyigbe, also is averaging double-figures with 11.2 points.  She also leads the team with 2.0 steals a game.  Forward Ali Johnson, also a senior, leads the team in rebounding with 7.9 boards a game to go along with her 9.9 points a game.  She is shooting 54.0 percent on the offensive end while on the defensive end she has totaled 23 blocks on the season. 

The Pratt Recreation Center will be the site of tomorrow night's game that is set to begin at 6 p.m. on the campus of C.W. Post.  Those who are unable to make the game can either watch, listen, or follow the Live Stats provided.
