PHILADELPHIA (Nov
. 13, 2011) – Junior forward Nicolette Marciniak (Brooklyn, N.Y.) registered a double-double with a career-high 24 points and a game-high 18 rebounds to lead C.W. Post past University of the Sciences, 81-68, Sunday afternoon in a non-conference women's basketball clash.
 
C.W. Post improves to 1-1 overall while USP slips to 1-1.
 
Marciniak converted 9 of 13 from field goal range.  Senior guard Felicia Joyner (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) contributed with 19 points and five assists while sophomore guard Kenyatta Sears (Hampton, Va.) added 10 points.  Junior forward Samantha Kopp (Franklinville, N.Y.) scored eight points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Pioneers.
 
Brianne Traub led the Devils with a game-high 25 points on 8 of 15 shooting from the field and went 8-for-10 at the charity stripe.  Sarah Hickman contributed 14 points and seven rebounds while Jessica Sylvester added 11 points. 
 
USP opened the game on a 10-2 run and led the way through most of the half before the Pioneers caught up and tied the game at 28-all on a layup from sophomore guard Alexis Peters (Dorchester, Mass.) at 1:46.  Senior Catherine Lutz (Easton, Pa.) put the visitors ahead with a short jumper at 1:06.
 
Hickman tied the game with a pair of free throws at the 42-second mark but Joyner countered with a jumper with 26 seconds on the clock to give C.W. Post a 32-30 lead at the half.
 
C.W. Post maintained its lead through the first seven minutes of play before USP tied the game tied the game up (43-43) on a layup from Sylvester at 12:56.
 
The teams played a close game and allowed each other to tie the score and grab the multiple times over the next five minutes before Sears knocked down a long 3-pointer at the 7-minute mark that gave the Pioneers the lead for good.
 
C.W. Post stretched its lead to as many as 14 points (81-66) with 56 seconds left to play in regulation.
 
C.W. Post finished the game shooting .375 (30 of 80) from the floor and held a sizeable advantage on the glass (50-31).  USP shot .511 (24 of 47) from field goal range.
 
C.W. Post is back in action on Thursday, Nov. 17 when it travels to play at Nyack at 7 p.m.
