Women's Basketball Drops Season Opener To Philadelphia, 81-66

PHILADELPHIA (Nov. 12, 2011) – Senior guard
Felicia Joyner (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) scored a team-high 16 points but it was not enough for C.W. Post as the Pioneers fell to Philadelphia University, 81-66, in their women's basketball season opener Saturday afternoon at the Gallagher Center.
Philadelphia shot .453 (29 of 64) from the field. C.W. Post shot .365 (27 of 74) from field goal range and held a 45-43 advantage on the glass.
Kristen Blye led the way for the Rams with a game-high 27 points and was a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line. Teammate Stephanie Agger contributed 21 points.
The teams played a close first half through the first 12 minutes and change before the Rams used an 11-2 run to distance themselves and take a 27-18 lead. The Pioneers caught up using a 10-2 spurt to trail 35-34 at the half.
The Pioneer offense struggled at the start of the second half and allowed the Rams to outscore them 18-4 through the first six minutes of play. Philadelphia never relinquished the lead and held a double-digit lead throughout the remainder of the game.
Senior
Catherine Lutz (Easton, Pa.) contributed 12 points in her debut with the Pioneers. Sophomore
Nijah LaCourt (Bronx, N.Y.) added 11 points and pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.
C.W. Post returns to action on Sunday against Philadelphia of the Sciences. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
