Women's Basketball Cruises Past Queens, 82-46

BROOKVILLE, N.Y.  (Jan. 8, 2011)
– Four players scored in double figures to lead C.W. Post over Queens College, 82-46, in an East Coast Conference women's basketball clash Saturday afternoon at the Pratt Recreation Center.
 
C.W. Post improves to 6-5 overall with a 4-2 mark in the ECC while Queens slips to 4-10 overall and 3-4 in the ECC.
 
Junior guard Felicia Joyner (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) led the Pioneers with 17 points on 7 of 13 shooting while senior forward Anthia Smith (Elmira, N.Y.) and senior guard Janea Aiken (St. Albans, N.Y.) each scored 13. Junior guard Noelle Pawlicki (Staten Island, N.Y.) scored 12 points on four long three-pointers.
 
C.W. Post opened the game on an 18-2 run and never looked back. Joyner and freshman guard Alexis Peters (Dorchester, Mass.) each scored eight points in the half. The Pioneers closed out the half leading 40-18.
 
The offensive attack continued in the second half for the Pioneers as they maintained a double digit lead throughout. Pawlicki scored three of her triples in the half, with two coming back-to-back at 09:37 and 09:04. 
 
C.W. Post closed out the half with its highest lead of the game after freshman guard Shayna Gatling (Baldwin, N.Y.) nailed a three-pointer with 51 seconds to play.
 
C.W. Post finished the game shooting .435 (27 of 62) from field goal range, including nine from behind the arc, and went 19-for-30 at the charity stripe. Queens shot .286 (16 of 56) and was 13-for-23 at the free throw line. The Pioneers outrebounded the Knights on the boards by a 57-30 advantage.
 
Peters and Gatling each chipped in eight points in the winning effort.
 
Amanda Bartlett led the Knights with seven points in the second half and finished the game with 13.
 
C.W. Post is back in action on Monday when it hosts the University of Bridgeport at 5 p.m.
