Joyner Scores Game-High 25 To Lead Women's Basketball Past Queens, 76-67

FLUSHING, N.Y. (Jan. 29, 2011) – Junior guard Felicia Joyner (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) poured in a season-high 25 points to lead C.W. Post over Queens College, 76-67, Saturday evening in an East Coast Conference women's basketball clash.
C.W. Post improves its overall record to 9-9 and 7-6 in conference play. Queens drops to 7-12 overall and 6-6 in the ECC.
In the first half, the teams jostled for the lead in the opening minutes before Queens grabbed control of it when Amanda Bartlett hit a jumper at 17:28.
The Knights maintained their advantage for most of the half but the Pioneers remained hot on their heels and used a late 8-0 charge with 8:07 that was capped off by a jumper from Joyner at 6:23 to give themselves a 28-27 lead.
Queens answered with a three-pointer from Cadie Chu at 5:57 to regain the lead but C.W. Post tied it up with another jumper from Joyner at 5:25 to tie the game. The teams played scoreless for the next minute and a half until senior forward Anthia Smith (Elmira, N.Y.) banged down a jumper at 4:04 that secured the lead for the Pioneers. C.W. Post led, 40-36, at the half.
In the second half, the Pioneers went to work in distancing themselves from the Knights and built a double digit lead as high as 13 (53-66) with 7:26 left to play.
Queens battled and shrunk the deficit to single digits but could not make up enough ground to pull off the comeback.
C.W. Post finished the game shooting .455 (30 of 66) from field goal range and held a 51-30 advantage on the boards. Queens shot .390 (23 of 59) from the field, including 9-of-27 beyond the arc.
Smith and senior guard Janea Aiken (St. Albans, N.Y.) each chipped in with 13 points while senior forward #Alyssa Lombardi# (New Fairfield, Conn.) added six with 11 rebounds.
Chris Harnishfeger led the Knights with 20 points while Bartlett added 16.
C.W. Post is back in action on Feb. 2 when it travels to play at Bridgeport at 5 p.m.
