Greer Records Double-Double As Women's Basketball Edges Out Molloy, 49-41

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Jan. 22, 2011) – Senior guard
Shatima Greer (Central Islip, N.Y.) registered a double-double and led the game with 16 points and 11 rebounds as C.W. Post edged out Molloy College, 49-41, on “Post Pride Day” at the Pratt Recreation Center.
C.W. Post snaps a two-game losing skid and evens its record to 8-8 and 6-5 in the East Coast Conference. Molloy slips to 4-14 overall and 4-7 in conference action.
The Pioneers opened the game on a 12-5 run to start the game before the Lions caught up with a 13-2 run to take an 18-14 lead with 7:23 to play in the first half. The teams battled for baskets for the remainder of the half and Molloy held a slim 20-19 lead at the break.
In the second half, the Pioneers tied the game up when Greer scored a layup underneath at 17:51. The Lions responded seconds later when Christina Marra hit a jumper in the paint at 17:33.
Molloy kept its lead for the next six minutes and change but the Pioneers stayed close and eventually took the lead back with 11:56 to play when Greer added another layup to make the score 26-25. C.W. Post added to its lead when junior guard
Felicia Joyner (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) completed an “and one” after drawing a foul from Scarlett Demchek on a layup with 10:30 to play.
From that point on, the Pioneers never relinquished the lead and closed out the game with an eight-point advantage.
C.W. Post finished the game shooting .322 (19 of 59) from field goal range and held a 42-36 advantage on the glass. Molloy shot .279 (12 of 43) from the field. The Pioneers got help from their bench with 19 points and recorded 15 second-chance points.
Senior guard
Janea Aiken (St. Albans, N.Y.) finished the game with 13 points for the Pioneers.
Ashley Addison led the Lions in scoring with 12 points while Delmara Reece grabbed 13 rebounds.
C.W. Post is back in action when it hosts St. Thomas Aquinas on Wednesday, Jan. 26 at 5 p.m.
