Aiken Reaches 1,000 As Women's Basketball Powers Past Queens, 63-54

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Feb. 3, 2010) – Junior guard Janea Aiken (St. Albans, N.Y.) scored 21 points and in the process reached 1,000 career points as C.W. Post knocked off Queens College, 63-54, in East Coast Conference women's basketball action Wednesday evening at the Pratt Recreation Center.
C.W. Post, the winner in 13 of its last 14 games, improves to 16-4 overall and 11-3 in conference play. Queens slips to 4-16 overall and 4-10 in conference action.
The Pioneers shot collective 22-of-58 from the floor (.397) and went 11-for-18 at the line.
C.W. Post led the way through most of the first half as sophomore guard Felicia Joyner (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) scored nine points while sophomore forward Noelle Pawlicki (Staten Island, N.Y.) scored eight.
The Pioneers led by as many as nine points (16-7) with 12:06 left to play in the half. At halftime, they led 32-28.
In the second half, the Knights tied the game when senior forward Jennifer Robbins (Louisville, Ky.) nailed down a 3-point field goal with 17:27 on the clock. The Pioneers answered with a layup from Aiken at 16:55 to regain the lead for the remainder of the game.
Joyner finished the game with 16 points while Pawlicki added 12.
Freshman forward Chloe Johnson (Sea Cliff, N.Y.) led the way for the Knights with 12 points while senior forward Brittany Faherty (Bethpage, N.Y.) added 10. Robbins finished her night off with nine points and a game-high 18 rebounds.
C.W. Post returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 6 when it travels to play at University of Bridgeport for a 1 p.m. tipoff.
