Plenty Of Offense On Hand As Women's Basketball Closes Out Regular Season With 69-52 Win Over Queens

FLUSHING, N.Y. (Feb. 27, 2010)
– It was a high scoring affair for C.W. Post as the Pioneers capped off their regular season with a 68-52 win over Queens College in East Coast Conference women's basketball action Saturday afternoon at Fitzgerald Gym.
 
The win improves C.W. Post to 19-8 overall and 14-7 in conference action while Queens slips to 6-21 overall and 6-15 in ECC action.
 
Junior guard Janea Aiken (St. Albans, N.Y.) led the way, scoring a game-high 18 points.
 
The Pioneer offense was in command all day as they carried the lead through the entire game and finished the game shooting .500 (26 of 52) from field goal range, including a season-high 13 3-point field goals. C.W. Post held a 39-35 advantage on the boards.
 
C.W. Post started out the game on an 8-0 run courtesy of two rainmakers and a pair of free throws from Aiken. Queens was held scoreless until junior center Jamie DiChiara (Smithtown, N.Y.) knocked down a jumper at 16:49.
 
The Knights climbed back into the game via a 7-1 spurt that cut the lead down to one (13-12) with 9:19 on the clock. C.W. Post quickly diffused the threat and responded with a long three from sophomore guard Felicia Joyner (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) at 9:01. 
 
The Pioneers finished the half strong and outscored the Knights, 16-4, during the final five minutes of play to take a 33-16 lead. Aiken led the half with 13 points. 
 
The second half belonged to senior guard Jasmine Moore (Bronx, N.Y.) as she scored 14 of her total 15 points in the half, shooting 6 of 8 from the field, including two threes.
 
C.W. Post maintained a double digit lead throughout the half and led by as many as 21 (57-36) with 9:20 to play. 
 
Aiken's final stats also included five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Moore added eight rebounds, three assists and two steals.  Freshman guard Ashley Caggiano (Holtsville, N.Y.) chipped in eight points while Joyner finished with seven points.
 
Senior forward Brittany Faherty (Bethpage, N.Y.) led the Knights on the floor with 16 points, four rebounds, two assists and a steal. Senior forward Jennifer Robbins (Louisville, Ky.) cleaned up on the glass with a game-high 10 boards and added two assists and three steals.
 
Both teams return to action on Wednesday, March 3 when the Pioneers host the Knights in the first round of the ECC Championships. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
