Dowling Uses Second Half Surge To Overcome Women's Basketball, 65-57

OAKDALE, N.Y. (Dec. 4, 2010) – C.W. Post held a 17-point lead early in the second half but could not hold off a strong offensive surge by Dowling as the Golden Lions rallied to a 65-57 win Saturday afternoon in an East Coast Conference women's basketball clash at Dowling gymnasium.
Dowling improves to 3-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play while C.W. Post drops to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the ECC.
Senior guard Janea Aiken (St. Albans, N.Y.) led the game in scoring with 23 points, shooting 8 of 13 from the field, including 4 of 6 behind the arc. She also pulled down six rebounds and added four assists.
The Pioneers had the Midas Touch with their shooting hands and opened the game with a scorching 10-0 lead. Dowling, on the other hand, did not score its first basket until 16:23 when Seja Gamble converted a free throw.
C.W. Post maintained its lead and finished the half on an 11-5 advantage. Aiken led the half in scoring with 12 points as the Pioneers shot 41.9 percent from the floor.
In the second half, the Pioneers' lead grew to 17 (42-25) early on but the Golden Lion offense took control of the game and went on a 25-4 run that gave them a 50-45 lead with 7:27 to play.
C.W. Post was able to tie the game up twice in the final minutes but the game belonged to Dowling.
Connie Simmons registered a double-double for Dowling with 17 points and 11 rebounds with four assists. Sarah Schicher led the Golden Lions in scoring with 19 points.
Sophomore forward Nicolette Marciniak (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 11 points and seven assists for C.W. Post.
C.W. Post is back in action on Wednesday, Dec. 8 when it hosts next-door rival, NYIT, for a 5 p.m. tip off at the Pratt Recreation Center.
