Second Half Drive Pushes SNHU Past Men's Basketball, 77-62

MANCHESTER, N.H. (Dec. 30, 2010) – Southern New Hampshire University outscored C.W. Post, 45-28, in the second half to come back and defeat the Pioneers, 77-62, Thursday evening in a non-conference men's basketball clash at the SNHU Field House.
Southern New Hampshire improves to 5-5 overall while C.W. Post dips to 4-6.
SNHU finished the game shooting .410 from the field (25 of 61) and was 18-for-26 at the charity stripe. C.W. Post shot .365 from field goal range (23 of 63) and went 11-for-15 from the free throw line. The Penmen won out on the boards by outrebounding the Pioneers, 44-37.
The Pioneers jumped out to a 21-6 lead to start the game before the Penmen scratched their back via a 12-1 run that broke the lead down to six (22-18) with 6:40 to play.
C.W. Post increased its lead as high as nine in the first half (30-21) after junior guard
Billy Butler (Elmont, N.Y.) swished a layup underneath with 2:44 on the clock.
The Penmen continued to battle and closed out the half on an 11-4 spurt. C.W. Post hung on to lead, 34-32, at the half.
In the second half, the Pioneers scored the first basket when sophomore guard
Jonathan Kohler (Bordentown, N.J.) scored on a short jumper out front at 19:47. But the lead would not stick and soon a layup from Tony Stapleton followed by a trey from Corey Vejraska returned the lead back to the Penmen for the rest of the game.
SNHU boosted its lead to 11 (56-45) with 13:36 to play. C.W. Post cut the deficit to four (57-53) with an 8-1 run with 9:25 to play. But with time not on their side, the Pioneers could not make up enough ground and the Penmen finished the game on a 10-0 run.
Greg DeSantis led the Penmen in scoring with 20 points on 7 of 15 shooting, including four triples while Tory Stapleton and Vejraska each chipped in 16 for SNHU. Stapleton also grabbed 11 rebounds in the winning effort.
Kohler led the Pioneers in scoring, registering a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Butler added 11 points and four rebounds. Sophomore guard

Aaron Hall (Syracuse, N.Y.) and junior guard
Stefan Bonneau (Middletown, N.Y.) all scored 10 points. Bonneau also dished out seven assists.
C.W. Post is back on the court when it returns home to host Post University for a non-conference tilt on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at the Pratt Recreation Center.
