Steady Dose Of Offense Drives Women's Basketball Past Molloy, 71-50

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Dec. 11, 2010) – Led in scoring by sophomore forward Nicolette Marciniak (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with 15 points, the C.W. Post Pioneers closed out the weekend with a commanding 71-50 win over Molloy College in an East Coast Conference women's basketball clash at Quealy Gymnasium.
C.W. Post improves to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in ECC action while Molloy falls to 2-8 overall and 2-2 in the ECC. The win against the Lions was the first in five meetings since the Pioneers captured a 65-57 win at home on Feb. 21, 2009.
C.W. Post completed the game shooting .419 (29 of 66) from field goal range and went 11-for-16 from the free throw line. In addition, the Pioneers cleaned up on the glass, outrebounding the Lions by a 49-35 count. Molloy shot .290 (18 of 62) from the field, including 5 of 16 beyond the arc, and went 9-for-15 at the charity stripe.
Marciniak converted 7 of 12 from the field and pulled down eight rebounds in the game. Senior guard Janea Aiken (St. Albans, N.Y.) 13 points toward the cause while senior guard Shatima Greer (Central Islip, N.Y.) and junior guard Felicia Joyner (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) each added 11. Greer also helped out on defense with eight rebounds.
Ashley Addison, Christina Marra, Caitlin Wheeler and Courtney Dolnick each scored nine points to lead the Lions. In addition, Delmara Reece pulled down 11 rebounds and Wheeler recorded six blocked shots in the game.
Molloy controlled the tempo throughout the first half and led by as many as eight (18-10) with 12:16 to play. The Pioneers turned the game around in the final minutes of the half when freshman guard Kenyatta Sears (Hampton, Va.) converted a pair of free throws at 2:13 that gave the visitors a 28-27 lead and helped spur them a 9-3 finish heading into intermission. C.W. Post led 35-30 at the half.
Molloy cut the lead down to two (37-35) with some early baskets to start the half, including a long three from Wheeler at 18:19. But C.W. Post's offense erupted for a 22-1 run, beginning with a jumper from Marciniak at 13:16 and capped off with a layup from freshman forward Nijah LaCourt (Bronx, N.Y.) at 5:50.
Twice the Pioneers led by as many as 26 in the half.
C.W. Post will take its talents to Waltham, Mass. next Sunday to play a non-conference tilt at Bentley University at 2 p.m.
