Molloy Hands Men's Basketball 76-72 Loss

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Dec. 11, 2010) –
The C.W. Post men's basketball game got a game-high 26 points from sophomore guard Tobin Carberry (Hamden, Conn.), but the Pioneers ultimately came up short in an East Coast Conference matchup against Molloy College on Saturday afternoon, falling by a final score of 76-72 to the Lions at Quealy Gymnasium.

C.W. Post drops to 4-4- overall and 2-2 in ECC action while Molloy improves to 2-4, 2-2 in ECC play.
The Pioneers closed out the game shooting 48.1% (26-54) from the floor and made 12-27 attempts from three-point range, while making 8-18 attempts from the charity stripe. The Pioneers dished out 16 assists to their 20 turnoer. Molloy held a 32-30 edge on the glass.

Carberry made a career-high 9-of-11 attempts from the field and was on fire from downtown as he shot 5-of-6 from beyond the arc. Senior guard Aaron Hall (Syracuse, N.Y.) scored 13 points for the visitors, and junior guard Stefan Bonneau (Middletown, N.Y.) added 10 points to the Pioneer totals. 

Four starters scored in double figures for the Lions, led by Jimmy Nolan with 17 points, Brian Hutchinson with 14, and Tolulade Jegede and Dariel Concha with 13 points apiece. 

The first half was a back and forth affair that saw the lead change several times as the teams battled for control of the game. Tied at 30-30 with 4:56 remaining in the first half, Molloy went on a quick 8-1 run that gave the hosts a 38-31 edge. C.W. Post cut into the lead with a trey by Carberry with 22 seconds remaining, but Molloy still held a 38-34 edge at halftime.

The second half was much of the same as the Pioneers tied the game at 42-42, and pulled ahead on an ensuing free throw by Hall at 15:15. The lead changed again and the Pioneers tied up the score again on a jumper by Hall at 14:30, knotting the score at 47-47. But Molloy reeled off a 7-point spurt at put the Lions up 54-47. The Pioneers battled back, pulling to within a basket, 58-56, at 9:46, but Molloy went on another 7-0 run that put them up 65-56 with 6:19 remaining. 

C.W. Post did not fold its tents however, as a layup by Hall at 3:57 pulled the visitors to 65-63, but Molloy hit 8-of-10 free throws in the remaining moments of the game to seal the Pioneers defeat.

C.W. Post will travel to Syracuse, N.Y., next Sunday to play a non-conference tilt at LeMoyne College at 3:30 p.m.
