AIC Offense Too Much For Women's Basketball, 63-48

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (Nov. 14, 2010) – Senior guard #Janea Aiken# (St. Albans, N.Y.) scored a game-high 20 points but it was not enough as American International College, backed by four players in double scoring figures, defeated C.W. Post, 63-48, on the final day of the AIC Tip-Off Classic.
AIC, who won the overall tournament, improves to 2-0 while C.W. Post dips to 1-1.
The Yellow Jackets scored the first basket of the game when Josephine McLane swished a 3-pointer at 19:33 and they never relinquished the lead, save for a game-tying jumper from Aiken (15-15) at 8:44.
The Yellow Jackets held a 35-22 lead at the half. Aiken led the Pioneers with 11 points while Rhea Pascal led AIC with 14. The Yellow Jackets took advantage of 11 personal fouls on the Pioneers and went 10-for-12 at the charity stripe.
In the second half, the Yellow Jackets were able to hold off the Pioneers, even as the visiting team cut the lead down to four (45-41) after a layup from senior #Anthia Smith# (Elmira, N.Y.) at 10:51.
From there, AIC went on to outscore C.W. Post, 18-7, to close out the game and seal the win.
Pascal finished the game with 16 points and a game-high 12 rebounds while McLane scored 10 and pulled down 10. Michelle Lafond led the Yellow Jackets with 18 points.
Sophomore guard #Ashley Caggiano# (Holtsville, N.Y.) added 10 points and two assists for the Pioneers.
C.W. Post returns to action on Nov. 20 when its hosts the University of New Haven in its home opener with tip-off set for 1:30 p.m.
