Montalvo, Kohler Receive ECC Weekly Honors
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Jan. 4, 2010) – Junior guard Gil Montalvo (Astoria, N.Y.) was recognized as this week's East Coast Conference Player of the Week and freshman Jonathan Kohler (Bordentown, N.Y.) received Rookie of the Week honors, the conference announced Monday afternoon.
Montalvo averaged 14.3 points on the week shooting 63 percent from the floor including 8 of 13 attempts from beyond the arc. He pitched in with 11 steals while averaging 6.3 assists per game and 3.3 rebounds per game.
Kohler led the Pioneers to a 3-0 week, averaging 24.7 points per game, shooting a 71 percent from the field (27-38), including 7-of-14 from downtown. Kohler dropped a career-high 31 points in a 76-54 win over Daemen College, and followed with 29 points in a 94-67 victory over Evangel. He averaged 5.0 boards per game while adding nine assists and four steals.
