Men's Basketball Runs Past Mercy, 113-75

– Six players scored in double figures as C.W. Post won its seventh straight game with a 113-75 win over Mercy College in East Coast Conference men's basketball action Saturday afternoon.
 
C.W. Post improves to 11-4 overall and 7-2 in the ECC. Mercy drops to 1-15 overall and 1-8 in conference action.
 
Junior guard Gil Montalvo (Astoria, N.Y.) and junior forward Aaron Hall (Syracuse, N.Y.) each scored 19 points to lead the Pioneers.
 
The Pioneers registered a season-high 63.2 percent shooting percentage, converting 43 of 68 from the floor and outrebounded the Mavericks, 41-26. C.W. Post also played strong underneath the basket, outscoring Mercy, 64-18, in the paint.
 
C.W. Post took control early in the game and answered to a 7-6 deficit with a 12-2 run that gave them an 18-9 lead with 14:56 left in the first half. 
 
The Mavericks cut the lead down to four (18-14) with 12:57 on the clock before the Pioneers fired back with eight unanswered points.
 
C.W. Post closed out the first half on a 13-5 spurt to command a 53-31 lead.
 
The Pioneer offense continued at full steam as they shot at a .667 (23-of-33) clip. Leading 63-43 with 16:41 on the clock, senior guard Roberto Macklin (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) scored on a layup that started a 20-5 run and was capped off by a layup from Montalvo at 11:11, giving the Pioneers an 83-42 advantage.
 
C.W. Post's highest lead in the game was 38 (90-52) with 7:47 left to play.
 
Macklin completed the game with 16 points followed by freshman forward Jonathan Kohler (Bordentown, N.J.) with 14. Senior forward Nemanja Jokic (Bronx, N.Y.) and senior guard Stephen Mears (Middle Island, N.Y.) each chipped in 11 points. Montalvo led the game with eight assists. The Pioneers got help from their bench with 42 points scored in the game.
 
For Mercy, junior guard Hasaan Powell (Bridgeport, Conn.) led the team, registering a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds and added six assists and a steal. Wilson added 16 points while junior guard Jimmy Gunville (Raynham, Mass.) chipped in 12 points for the Mavericks.
 
The Pioneers last reached the century mark in scoring on Feb. 18, 2009 in a `102-81 win at NYIT.
 
C.W. Post returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 20 at Dowling College for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
