Dowling Holds Off Women's Basketball, 85-80

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Feb. 25, 2009) – Dowling College held off C.W. Post in the final seconds of regulation to claim an 85-80 win in East Coast Conference women's basketball Wednesday evening at the Pratt Recreation Center.
The win improves Dowling to 19-7 overall and 14-4 in ECC action. The loss drops C.W. Post to 11-13 overall and 9-9 in conference play.
Senior forward Molly Trubridy led the Golden Lions with 27 points on 13 of 18 shooting. Graduate student Christie Marrone added 18 points and Kasonna Samms and Shanasia Franklin each chipped in 13 points for Dowling.
Junior guard
Jasmine Moore (Bronx, N.Y.) scored a game-high 31 points, netting 10 baskets while grabbing six rebounds and adding two assists and two steals for the Pioneers.
Dowling completed the game shooting .534 (31 of 58) from the floor and went 19-for-34 at the free throw line. C.W. Post shot .444 (28 of 63) from field goal range and held a 47-29 advantage in rebounds.
Dowling shot 56 percent from the floor in the first half and got help from Tubridy with 10 points to take a 39-33 lead at the half. Moore and freshman guard
Felicia Joyner (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) each scored 11 points in the half.
C.W. Post banged in 16 baskets, including four treys, to gradually cut the lead down and got to within two (82-80) after two made free throws from Joyner with 12 seconds remaining. Dowling held on with the help of a pair of free throws from senior guard Shanasia Franklin to boost the Golden Lions' lead back up to four (84-80).
Joyner completed the game with 22 points that included three treys and a 5-for-6 performance at the line.

Whitney Murrer (Richmond, Va.) for her final regular season game at the Pratt.
C.W. Post closes out its regular season at Adelphi University on Feb. 28 at 5 p.m.
