Catherall's 23 Leads Women's Basketball Past NYIT, 57-43

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (Feb. 17, 2009) – Junior guard
Gina Catherall (Bayside, N.Y.) scored a game-high 23 points to lead C.W. Post past New York Institute of Technology, 57-43, in East Coast Conference women's basketball action at Recreation Hall.
The win improves the Pioneers to 10-12 overall and 8-7 in the ECC. The Bears slip to 3-21 overall and 2-13 in conference action.
C.W. Post completed the game shooting .382 (21 of 55) from the floor and went 10-for-17 at the charity stripe. NYIT shot .262 (16 of 61) and held a 39-37 advantage in rebounds.
Catherall shot 7-for-11 from field goal range including 5-for-7 behind the arc.
NYIT started out the game with a 4-0 lead before senior forward
Whitney Murrer (Richmond, Va.) swished a jumper at 18:00 to start a 12-0 spurt for the Pioneers.
The Bears reclaimed the lead with 4:40 to go in the first half when junior forward Latoya Anderson nailed a jumper to lead 22-20.
C.W. Post grabbed the lead back when freshman guard
Felicia Joyner (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) converted two free throws to tie the game (24-24) at 2:48 and Murrer followed with a layup at 2:24. The Pioneers led 26-24 at the break.
Catherall boosted the Pioneers' lead by four when she sank a rainmaker at 6:13 that helped the Pioneers close out the game on a 14-2 run.
Murrer finished the game with 12 points while Joyner chipped in nine.
Sophomore forward Lauren Caggiano registered a double-double for the Bears with 12 points and 11 rebounds and teammate Dena McKinney pulled down 11 boards.
