Offense Pushes Women's Basketball Past Concordia, 79-48

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. (Feb. 11, 2009)
– Senior forward Whitney Murrer (Richmond, Va.) scored a game-high 16 points to lead C.W. Post past Concordia College, 79-48, Wednesday evening in an East Coast Conference women's basketball clash at the Meyer Athletic Center.
 
The win improves the Pioneers to 9-11 overall and 7-6 in ECC action while Concordia drops to 3-19 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
 
C.W. Post completed the game shooting .453 (29 of 64) from field goal range and held a 50-31 advantage on the boards versus the Clippers. Defensively, the Pioneers held their opponent to a season-low 13 baskets as the Clippers shot .271 (13 of 48) from the floor.  
 
C.W. Post made its presence known underneath the basket as it outscored the host team 32-4 in the paint. Additionally, the Pioneers scored 31 points off 28 Clipper miscues.
 
The Pioneers never relinquished the lead throughout the entire game as an opening jumper by Murrer at 19:29 began a 23-4 run.  C.W. Post led by as many as 25 points after a short jumper in the paint by sophomore forward Caitlin Wheeler (Belle Harbor, N.Y.) with 59 seconds remaining in the half. The Pioneers held a 42-22 lead at the break. 
 
The Pioneer offense remained steady in the second stanza as they kept the Clippers at bay with a double figure lead throughout the half. 
 
With 9:56 remaining, freshman forward Noelle Pawlicki (Staten Island, N.Y.) swished a jumper that started a 13-0 spurt for the Pioneers. Junior guard Gina Catherall (Bayside, N.Y.) converted two free throws with 20 seconds on the clock to close out the game.
 
Freshman guard Felicia Joyner (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) scored 14 points on 5 of 7 from the floor while Moore chipped in 11 points and six assists. Pawlicki added 10 points and four assists with two steals and Catherall registered seven points with five assists and three steals.
 
Freshman guard Kayla Koch and sophomore guard Bonnie DeFina each tallied 11 points for the Clippers.
 
The Pioneers converted 18 of 25 at the charity stripe while the Clippers converted 19 of 31. 
 
C.W. Post will host the University of Bridgeport Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. at the Pratt Recreation Center.
