BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Dec. 12, 2009) The C.W. Post women's swim team won seven of 11 events and posted a new pool record in the 400-yard medley relay, as well as an NCAA 'B' cut by
Josephine Tjernstrom (Bromma, Sweden) in the 200-yard breaststroke, as the Pioneers swam to a 109-91 victory over the Bridgeport Purple Knights on Saturday in the Pratt Recreation Center Natatorium.
Tjernstrom placed first in the 200-yard breakstroke with a 'B' cut time of 2:25.31, and also swam as part of the record-setting 400-yard medley relay team.
Junior
Riley Cassidy (Cambridge, Ontario) took first in the 200-yard individual medley with a final time of 2:12.49, and checked in first in the 200-yard butterfly at 2:11.29. Cassidy teamed up with seniors
Brittany Roman-Green (Woodstock, N.Y.) and Tjernstrom and freshman
Cornelia Hanes (Stockholm, Sweden) to set a new pool record in the 400-yard medley relay, winning the event with a final time of 3:57.61.
Roman-Green captured an individual win in the 200-yard backstroke, slapping the wall at 2:09.74, and finishing second in the 50-yard freestyle with a 24.80 finish.
Hanes finished first in the 100-yard freestyle, registering a winning time of 53.62 seconds, as well as the 50-yard freestyle with a 24.76 secondmark.
Freshman
Carly Marshall (Cornwall, N.Y.) picked up second-place finishes in both the 200 IM (2:15.86) and the 200 fly (2:14.42). Freshman
Kristina Fritsch (Brooklyn, N.Y.) also swam to two second-place finishes, in the 200-yard freestyle, coming in at 1:58.12, and in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing at 5:22.14.
Senior
Morgan Feliccia (Arnold, Md.) finished second in the 200 back with a final time of 2:12.87, and junior
Sofi Mathsson (Stockholm, Sweden) picked up a second place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle, touching the wall at 11:37.34.
Bridgeport received individual victories from Patrycja Zera in the 1000-yard free with a final time of 11:20.04, Anna Kwiatkowska slapped the wall first in the 200 free at 1:57.81, and Maris Visse won the 500 free in 5:14.92.
In the final event of the day, the Bridgeport relay team of Kwiatkowska, Zera, Roxana Purcelea and Sandra Schmitz set a new pool record in the 400-yard freestyle relay, finishing with a time of 3:42.17.
C.W. Post will not compete until after the holiday break, as they travel to East Stroudsburg on January 13 for a 1 p.m. meet.
