Woodberry's 19 Leads Molloy Past Women's Basketball, 69-56

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Nov. 24, 2009)
– Senior forward Kymira Woodberry (Hyde Park, Mass.) scored a game-high 19 points and grabbed 18 rebounds as Molloy College held off C.W. Post for a  69-56 win Tuesday evening in East Coast Conference women's basketball at the Pratt Recreation Center.
 
Molloy improves to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play. The loss halts a three-game win streak for C.W. Post as it slips to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the ECC.
 
Molloy's offense was solid as the Lions shot .466 (27 of 58) from the floor, including .500 (15 of 30) in the first half. The Lions outrebounded the Pioneers, 39-35, and held a 22-4 advantage in points off turnovers.
 
C.W. Post shot .500 (13 of 26) in the first half but faltered in the second, converting just 6 of 26 from field goal range.
 
Molloy jumped out to a 9-2 lead to start off the game before sophomore forward Noelle Pawlicki (Staten Island, N.Y.) swished a 3-pointer at 14:52. The Pioneers rallied to take the lead (14-13) on a layup from junior forward Janea Aiken (St. Albans, N.Y.) at 12:20.
 
The lead did not hold for C.W. Post as Woodberry banged in a jumper at 11:06 and the Lions held on to the lead the remainder of the game. At the half, Molloy led 34-30.
 
C.W. Post cut the lead to three (38-35) when sophomore forward Felicia Joyner (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) put in a lay-in at 17:45. 
 
The Lions answered with a free throw from senior guard Lisa Abitante (Brooklyn, N.Y.) that sparked an 8-0 run and built the lead to 11 (46-35). Molloy held its highest lead at 16 (64-48) with 3:43 left in regulation.
 
Aiken led the Pioneers with 15 points and added four assists and recorded one steal.

Senior guard Clarissa Jones (Boston, N.Y.) added 13 points with three assists and two steals while senior forward E.J. Dreyer (Floral Park, N.Y.) chipped in 10 points.
 
C.W. Post returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 28 against Holy Family University at 1:30 p.m. at the Pratt Recreation Center.
