Men's Soccer Scores Late, Pushes Past Molloy, 3-1

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 10, 2009) – C.W. Post men's soccer scored two goals late in the second half that broke a 1-1 tie and gave the Pioneers a 3-1 victory over Molloy College on Saturday afternoon in East Coast Conference men's soccer action.
C.W. Post improves to 6-5-1 and evens its ECC record to 2-2, while Molloy slips to 4-6-1 and 1-2 in ECC play.
Freshman Niclas Dahlin (Kungalv, Sweden) gave C.W. Post an early 1-0 edge when he booted home a rebound that careened off Molloy goalie Carlos Barros.
But at 16:57, Molloy evened the score as Paul Ferrandino took a pass from John-Paul Hughes and one-touched the ball past Pioneer graduate student goalkeeper Shane Flanagan (Dublin, Ireland).
It wasn't until the 79th minute of play that the tie was broken, as freshman Betim Bajrami (Helsingborg, Sweden) got a penalty kick opportunity and beat Barros into the upper right corner for a 2-1 lead.
David Carlsson (Gothenburg, Sweden) put the icing on the cake for the Pioneers as he took the ball down the left side, beat Barros one-on-one to the left side, and placed a shot into the lower right corner for a 3-1 advantage.
The game was hard fought between both teams, resulting in 23 total fouls, five yellow cards and three red cards.
C.W. Post outshot the Lions 12-9, and held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Flanagan made four saves in goal, while Barros stopped six shots.
C.W. Post looks to continue its winning ways as it will host St. Thomas Aquinas on Saturday, October 17.
