Molloy Holds Off Women's Basketball, 64-59

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Jan. 21, 2009)
– Junior forward Kymira Woodberry led the game with 22 points and 14 rebounds as Molloy College held off a second half surge from C.W. Post to win, 64-59, Wednesday evening in East Coast Conference women's basketball action at the Quealy Gymnasium.

 The Lions improve to 13-2 overall and 7-0 in conference action while C.W. Post slips to 6-8 overall and 4-3 in conference play.
 
Molloy finished the game shooting .387 (24 of 62) from field goal range and converted 13 of 19 from the charity stripe. C.W. Post shot .404 (19 of 47) from the field and went 18-for-26 at the free throw line. The Pioneers held a 38-35 advantage on the glass.  
 
The second half saw six lead changes as both teams played a close game. The Pioneers cut the lead to three (56-53) on a layup from sophomore forward Alyssa Lombardi (New Fairfield, Conn.) but could not come closer as the Lions iced the game and scored 10 of their final points
 
Junior guard Tatiana Lopez chipped in 11 points while teammate E.J. Dreyer added 10 points and nine rebounds for Molloy.
 
The first half began with two early baskets from senior forward Whitney Murrer (Richmond, Va.) and freshman Felicia Joyner (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) before the Lions' offense came alive and scored 15 unanswered points before the Pioneers broke the run with a layup from junior forward Chantee Hallett (Bronx, N.Y.) at 12:28.
 
The Pioneers embarked on a 17-4 run that not only made up the difference but gave the visitors a 21-19 lead with 6:43 remaining. Molloy tied the game and regained the lead with two straight jumpers from Woodberry. The Lions held on to lead 29-26 at the half as Woodberry led all scorers with 14 points. Murrer and junior guard Jasmine Moore (Bronx, N.Y.) each tallied nine points in the half for C.W. Post.
 
The Lions scored 23 points on 21 Pioneer miscues and recorded 14 steals in the game.
 
C.W. Post will next play at Dowling College Jan. 24 at 1 p.m.
