Charged Offense Sends Women's Basketball Over Concordia, 67-46

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Jan. 12, 2009) – Four players scored in double figures as the C.W. Post women's basketball team defeated Concordia College, 64-38, in an East Coast Conference women's basketball clash at the Pratt Recreation Center.
The win snaps a three-game skid for the Pioneers as they improve to 5-6 overall and 3-1 in the ECC. Concordia loses its sixth straight game and slips to 2-9 overall and 0-4 in ECC action.
Tied at 10-all with 14:10 on the clock in the first half, the Pioneers took over and scored 13 straight points while shutting out the Clippers to take a 23-10 lead with 10:24 remaining.
C.W. Post took advantage underneath the basket, scoring 16 of its points in the paint. Junior guard Gina Catherall (Bayside, N.Y.) led all scorers in the half with 10 points, including a pair of treys.
The Clippers cut the lead to single digits after a made free throw from junior guard Brittany Binnie at 7:05. C.W. Post responded with a three-pointer from junior guard Jasmine Moore (Bronx, N.Y.) at 6:51 that began an 8-0 surge over the Clippers and built its lead to 40-17 with 3:01 left to play in the half.
The Pioneers held a comfortable 42-24 lead at the break.
The second half saw the Pioneers increase their lead by as many as 26 (63-37) with 5:03 remaining in regulation.
Freshman guard Felicia Joyner (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) led the Pioneers with 13 points while Catherall added 12 points with five assists. Senior forward Whitney Murrer (Richmond, Va.) registered a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Moore added 10 points while pulling down nine rebounds.
Concordia's Dana Rommel led all scorers with 10 points in the second stanza with seven rebounds and completed the game with 15 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double.
C.W. Post is back in action on Wednesday, Jan. 14 at the University of Bridgeport for a 5 p.m. tilt with the Purple Knights.
