BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Sept. 23, 2008) - Cortney Colern (Barker, N.Y.) made a career-high 13 saves in goal, but the seventh-ranked Pioneers came up short against No. 8 East Stroudsburg University, dropping a 3-1 game on Tuesday afternoon at Hickox Field.
The Pioneers slip to 5-3 and 1-2 in the PSAC, while East Stroudsburg moves to 6-4 and 2-1 in the PSAC.
Molly McNeil's goal in the 12th minute gave the Warriors a 1-0 edge, as Kierstyn DeNardo picked up the assist.
Caitlin Brownley doubled the lead in the 25th minute as she had a breakaway and went one-on-one with Colern, just beating the keeper to the left side.
Amanda Nann (Hamburg, N.J.) pulled the Pioneers to within a goal in the 38th minute, when
Kaurey Foley (Mohegan Lake, N.Y.) sent a cross in front of the net. Junior forward
Krystal Napolitano (Coram, N.Y.) got a stick on the ball, sending it to Nann, who banged the shot home into the lower left corner from five yards out.
The Pioneers battled, and had several near misses, but were unable to find the back of the net, and Brittany Kocis' 67th minute goal sealed the win for the Warriors.
Colern's 13 saves came as the Pioneers were outshot by a 20-8 count and also saw ESU hold a 13-9 advantage in penalty corners.
ESU goalkeeper Carolyn Kisling made four saves to earn the win for East Stroudsburg.
The Pioneers return to action as they travel to Bloomsburg on Saturday for a 3 p.m. matchup.
