BROOKVILLE, N.Y.  (Apr. 15, 2008)
– Senior Samantha Yodowitz (Suffern, N.Y.) went 3 for 4 at the plate and scored five runs as C.W. Post took two games from the University of Bridgeport by scores of 9-0 and 8-2 in a Tuesday afternoon East Coast Conference softball doubleheader.

C.W. Post improves its overall record to 29-12 overall and 13-1 in the conference while Bridgeport slips to 13-15 overall and 7-5 in the conference.

The Pioneers won the first game in five innings after posting three runs in the first and third innings, including a two-run triple from Yodowitz with two outs in the bottom of the first.

Senior first baseman Holly Eringis (Tewksbury, Mass.) added two runs in the bottom of the fourth when she singled to left center and advanced to second on the throw while Yodowitz and sophomore shortstop Christie Softy (Floral Park, N.Y.) came around to score.

Yodowitz earned the win, pitching four innings and letting up one hit – a single in the second inning – while striking out five and walking one. Freshman Sarah Kiser (Cooper City, Fla.) came in the fifth inning and struck out two to preserve the shutout.

Yodowitz went 2 for 3 with three RBI while Softy went 2 for 3 with two runs scored. 

In the nightcap, both teams played a scoreless game until Bridgeport took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth when senior pitcher Tricia Lee doubled to left field to score third baseman Amanda Wentz from second.

The Pioneers rallied back to score four runs that included a two-run home run to left center from Softy in the second at bat of the inning. Senior third baseman Katie Younes (Newbury, Mass.) added a two-run double to right center to score Yodowitz from first and Hippo from third.

C.W. Post added four more runs in the bottom of the fifth that included another two-run double from Younes.

Freshman Christina Berardi (Raynham, Mass.) earned the win, pitching six innings and surrendering one earned run on five hits with two strikeouts and one walk.

Younes finished the game batting 2 for 3 with four RBI while Softy finished batting 2 for 4 with three RBI and two runs scored.

Lee was 1 for 3 with RBI for the Purple Knights.

C.W. Post will play a non-conference doubleheader against Dominican College on Apr. 16 at 3 p.m.
