Queens Staves Off Women's Basketball, 67-59

FLUSHING, N.Y. (Dec. 3, 2008) - Junior guard
Gina Catherall (Bayside, N.Y.) scored a game-high 23 points but it was not enough as Queens College held on to defeat C.W. Post, 67-59, in an East Coast Conference women's basketball clash Wednesday evening at Fitzgerald Gym.
The win improves Queens to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play. The Pioneers are 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the ECC.
Queens shot a collective .327 (17 of 52) from field goal range, including 6-of-19 beyond the arc. The Knights held a 54-35 advantage on the boards. C.W. Post finished the game shooting .333 (23 of 69) from the field and forced 27 Knight miscues.
Catherall was 8-for-17 from the floor and converted four treys while pulling down five rebounds and adding three assists and four steals for the Pioneers.
Amanda Bartlett led the Knights in shooting, converting 4 of 14 from the floor and was perfect at the charity stripe (6 of 6).
Kara Otterbine registered a double-double for Queens with 15 points and 11 rebounds while teammate Jennifer DiChiara also had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Jennifer Robbins pulled down 12 boards for the Knights.
Senior forward
Whitney Murrer (Richmond, Va.) added 15 points and eight rebounds with a season-high six steals for the Pioneers. Sophomore guard
Emily Hall (Montclair, N.J.) added nine points and three rebounds and two steals.
C.W. Post will return to action on Dec. 6 in its home opener against St. Thomas Aquinas at 1:30 p.m.
