Box Score
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 4, 2008) - Sophomore forward Amanda Nann (Hamburg, N.J.) scored her team-leading 10th goal of the season, and junior midfielder Kaurey Foley (Mohegan Lake, N.Y.) scored her first goal of the season as the 10th-ranked Pioneers scored early and held off a late charge by Millersville to earn a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference victory, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon on Hickox Field.
The Pioneers improve to 6-4 overall and even to 2-2 in the PSAC, while the Marauders slip to 4-7 overall and 1-5 in the PSAC.
Nann's goal came just five minutes into play, as Foley intercepted the ball at the Pioneers' own 25-yard line, and sent a pass to the right to sophomore defender Kristina Gustafson (New Braintree, Mass.), who carried the ball upfield and sent a crossing pass to Nann, who spun around a defender and sent a reverse stick shot into the left side of the goal for 1-0 lead.
Less then five minutes later, junior forward Krystal Napolitano (Coram, N.Y.) took a feed along the right side and sent a cross to the middle of the net, where the ball found Foley's stick as she redirected a shot into the left corner of the cage.
The Pioneers headed into halftime with a 2-0 lead, and play remained scoreless until the 59th minute, when Emily Woodland score her team-leading fifth goal of the season for Millersville, cutting the Pioneer lead to one. However, the Pioneers were able to maintain defensive pressure and did not allow another Millersville shot as they held on for the win.
Goalkeeper Cortney Colern (Barker, N.Y.) made five saves and allowed only one goal for the Pioneers as she improved her record to 6-4. Millersville goalie Sara Dickinson made four saves, respectively.
The Pioneers outshot the Marauders 10-7, but Millersville held a 12-11 advantage in penalty corners.
