BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Oct. 19, 2008) – Sophomore forward
Amy Lillis (Holtsville, N.Y.) scored two goals to lead C.W. Post past Seton Hill University in a Sunday afternoon field hockey clash on Hickox Field.
Lillis scored her first goal 36 seconds into the game when she redirected a shot in from five yards out. She followed up in the fourth minute on a tap-in shot from sophomore forward
Amanda Nann (Hamburg, N.J.).
Overall, C.W. Post (9-6-0) outshot the Griffins by a 29-8 count, including 24 shots on goal.
Freshman midfielder
Brie-Claire Drost (Wading River, N.Y.) registered a goal and assist for the Pioneers.
The Pioneer offense kept the Griffins' defensive end busy in the first half. Junior forward
Krystal Napolitano (Coram, N.Y.) scored the game's third goal when she picked the ball up at the Seton Hill 30-yard line and charged in past the defenders with a shot into the right corner at 9:38.
A little over a minute later, Nann put the Pioneers up, 4-0, when she scored on scrambled shot in front of the cage at 10:44. C.W. Post furthered its lead when Drost redirected a shot from Lillis into the right corner with 2:25 remaining before halftime.
In the second half, senior midfielder
Coleen Mahlstadt (Farmingville, N.Y.) scored her first goal of the season on a five-yard shot from the left post off a deflected shot from
Kathryn Godshalk (Hilton, N.Y.) in the 46th minute.
Freshman defender
Helene Bruckner (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) scored her first collegiate goal from five yards out on a pass from Drost to lead 7-0.
The Griffins got on the board in the 66th minute when sophomore forward Krista Archambeau scored in front of the net on a pass from freshman forward Allegra Ramos.
Seton Hill goalkeeper Pamela Weldon made 10 saves in the first half and teammate Michelle Kleinschmid stopped six shots in the second half.
Prior to the game, the Pioneers honored their three graduating seniors,
Amber Limanni (Mickleton, N.J.),
Jessica Scibilia (Mastic, N.Y.) and Mahlstadt.
C.W. Post will be in action on Oct. 22 at East Stroudsburg at 4 p.m.
