Fourth Quarter Lifts Assumption Over Football, 31-24

WORCESTER, Mass. (Nov. 2, 2007) – Assumption College scored 14 points in the fourth quarter to defeat C.W. Post, 31-24, Friday evening in a Northeast-10 clash.
 
Assumption wins its second straight contest and improves to 3-7 overall and 2-6 in the conference.  C.W. Post drops its third straight loss of the season and drops to 3-6 overall and 3-5 in conference action.
 
With the scored tied at 24, Assumption’s Herb Woodard rushed in four yards to score the game-winning touchdown with 1:55 remaining in regulation.
 
Assumption scored first in the first quarter when senior wide receiver Jake Beers caught an eight-yard
pass from junior quarterback Taylor Humphrey.  Senior kicker Jon Eisele kicked the extra point to put the Greyhounds ahead with 7:54 to go in the quarter.
 
C.W. Post got on the board in the second quarter when junior kicker Andrew Kroell (Baldwin, N.Y.) kicked a 47-yard field goal with 8:06 on the clock to cut the lead to 7-3 in favor of Assumption.
 
The Greyhounds responded minutes later when senior defensive back Mike Moonan intercepted a pass from junior quarterback Nick Georgetti (Holbrook, N.Y.) and returned it for a 45-yard TD with 5:07 to go in the half.
 
Assumption added one more score with 23 seconds remaining in the half when Eisele kicked a successful field goal from 31 yards out.
 
In the third quarter, the Pioneers came out strong and put together successful drives that saw junior running back Paul Jennings (Jamaica, N.Y.) rush in two touchdowns for two and five yards that tied the game at 17-all.
 
In the fourth quarter, the Greyhounds David Canney caught a 62-yard pass from Humphrey on the first play of the Greyhounds’ drive at 9:42. 
 
The Pioneers answered back when Georgetti connected for a pass to junior wide receiver Vaughn Davis (Queens, N.Y.) for 47 yards at 8:50.
 
C.W. Post finished the game holding a 22-19 advantage in first downs, including 18 on the pass. 
 
Humphrey completed 21 of 35 pass attempts for 341 yards and two TD passes for the Greyhounds. 
Woodard finished the game with 88 rushing yards on 29 carries, including one touchdown. 
 
Georgetti finished the game completing 28 of 43 pass attempts for 319 yards and one TD pass.  Senior wide receiver Chris Bone (Inwood, N.Y.) caught 10 passes for 103 yards for the Pioneers.
 
C.W. Post will finish its regular season at home against Merrimack College on Nov. 10 at 12 p.m. on Hickox Field.
