Peter Lipka enters his fifth year with the LIU Post men's basketball program in 2017-18.
Along with his duties as assistant men’s basketball coach, Lipka mentors LIU Post students as a success coach in areas of class advising, student conduct and residence life. He also acts as liaison between the athletic department and student life.
Prior to joining the Pioneers' coaching staff, Lipka spent five seasons as an assistant at the United States Merchant Marine Academy. Over his time in nearby Kings Point, N.Y., Lipka helped the Mariners to a 79-54 record, including an impressive 24-5 mark, along with an NCAA Tournament second-round appearance, in 2009-10.
He also had a hand in recruiting, defensive strategies, player development and video coordinating at USMMA.
During his undergraduate days, Lipka played four years for current LIU Post Head Men's Basketball Coach Erik Smiles at Farmingdale State College. While there, he was a two-time All-Skyline Conference selection, and aided the Rams in securing a pair of bids to the NCAA Division III Tournament. During his sophomore campaign, Lipka was recognized for his shooting prowess from beyond the arc. A 55.4 percent success rate earned him the NCAA Division III statistical title in that category.
Lipka earned his bachelor's degree in Business Management from Farmingdale State, and earned his master's in Physical Education from Queens College. Lipka currently resides with his wife, Nadra, in Brookville, N.Y.
